A day for Yoga teachers, trainees or those in similar professions, to explore the context, history, principles and practice of ethical relationships in yoga teaching together.

About the Event
This 1 day workshop is offered as part of the 300h Advanced TT in Accessible Yoga and Spiritual Development but is also open to any yoga teacher, trainee or those in similar professions.
Price: £95.
The day will start and end with a short practice, and combine interactive lecturing, and small and whole group discussion.
We will discuss the context and history, principles and practice of ethical relationships in yoga teaching together.
Including:
The changing role of yoga teachers and evolving interpretations of Patanjali’s yamas and niyamas
A deep dive into our embodied experiences of consent and touch, power and persuasion
Writing our own codes of ethics and knowing where we stand, as individuals and as allies
Teaching for context, consent and agency
Reconciling change with tradition in diverse cultural contexts
A brief introduction to the evolving edge of contemporary yoga, including the concept of ‘post-lineage yoga’, its opportunities, risks and common features
Morning Programme:
Short Movement Practice
Interactive lecture and discussion of: The changing social position of yoga teachers – renunciates and gurus, householders and instructors
The Yamas and Niyamas – from translation to interpretation
Learning from the roots of yoga – A deep dive into brahmacharya, touch, and the idea of continence
Small group work: Writing our own code of ethics: Finding the universal elements we can all agree on
Debating the differences between our approaches and context
Afternoon Programme:
Group discussion: Feeding back and discussion of the small group work
Interactive lecture and discussion of: Relationship as the primary task at hand – teaching for context, consent and agency Where did things go so wrong? The counterculture, institutional cover ups and #MeToo Reconciliation: honouring our sources and post-lineage yoga
